In 2016 I was given a wonderful gift. I was able to step away from work and take a much needed break. During my break, my father, whom I loved dearly, passed away from cancer. This had a profound effect on me. I decided to use my work break to educate myself on disease prevention. I have a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in health behaviors so this was not a new topic for me. But I wanted to take time to fully explore it and really dig into the research. Eight years and much study later, I have come away with a new appreciation for the importance of lifestyle in preventing disease and living a long, active, healthy life. I have become a real believer in Lifestyle Medicine.
Lifestyle medicine uses evidence-based therapeutic approaches to prevent, treat and often reverse the chronic diseases that plague so many people. Even if you are already ill, lifestyle interventions can help.
“Your body has a remarkable capacity to heal itself if you give it a chance to do so and quickly.”
Dr. Dean Ornish, pioneer in Lifestyle Medicine and author of Undo It
