Speaking is a form of teaching and I have always loved teaching. As a dentist, I loved educating my patients about oral health and as a faculty member at the University of Kentucky Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry, I loved working with students. My passion for teaching, genuine care for students and pursuit of excellence led me to receive multiple teaching awards, including the Great Teacher Award, the most prestigious teaching award at the University of Kentucky.
In 2016, I stepped away from academics for a season. I moved in with my mom and dad and cared for my dad who was dying of cancer. I adored my father. Watching him die a little each day, was a turning point in my life. I never want anyone else I love to suffer and die like that. After he died, I made it my mission to dig into the research to see what studies tell us about preventing cancer. I found , much information about preventing not just cancer but other chronic disease as well. I wish I had accessed this information years ago. I couldn’t NOT share the information I was learning. As a university faculty for over 20 years I have been an invited speaker on health related topics at many conferences regionally and nationally but I have never been more excited about speaking than I am today. I am so excited to share what I have learned about food, sleep, exercise and stress reduction. These pillars of health promote physical and mental wellness and fight (even reverse) disease.
I have presented in Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Arkansas, Washington DC, California, Iowa, Georgia, Texas and Canada. I enjoy with both small and large audiences, to both experienced health care professionals and people with little health knowledge but an interest in health. My presentations are designed to engage listeners, including food demonstrations, tastings, group discussion, mindfulness exercises, a Zumba tutorial with Latin music and writing in joy journals that I provide. The length of my presentations ranges from 30 minutes to 4 hours and is tailored to meet the needs of the audience.
“Health and wellness is a priority for us at The Kentucky Castle and we are thrilled to partner with Dr. Pam Stein as one of our leaders in the ‘Food is Health’ series.
